Cement Over Tile Fireplace
Add spacers beneath the first row if necessary to get application straight and level.
Cement over tile fireplace. Once you ve exposed the raw masonry mix up a batch of thinset concrete and spread it over the surface of the brick using a broad flat hand trowel. Add cement board to the entire area you ll be tiling for us that means the floor and all 4 sides of the fireplace leaving room for wood mantle. The people at yhl put up cement board and made it look so easy. Allow the concrete to dry for at least 24 hours then apply a second coat of latex infused thinset.
My most recent plan involved tiling over it with cement tile. Well the fireplace itself isn t new but it recently got a serious but inexpensive makeover. We had a plan of attack. The cement board provides an even surface on which the tile can lay and bonds to the thinset the latex glue that holds up the tile.
On the ground and drywall use thinset and screws to attach the cement board. Lay your first row of tile at the bottom of the fireplace making sure that the first row is level. Use these measurements to mark where the cement board must. Measure the fireplace surround with a measuring tape.
Place a straight edge along the areas of the cement board that must be cut. Continue up the fireplace adding spacers between each row. I ve been looking at this ugly thing for years and i ve had a few different plans to refinish it. But on the metal surround use high heat adhesive to attach the cement boards.
I m really excited to show you my new fireplace. Cut the cement board pieces to size. After the tiles have dried for 24 hours remove the spacers and grout.
